The corningware lite casserole lids are difficult to remove as many have commented, arthritic hands or not! Since this cookware is so great in every other respect, I found a solution to the difficult lid removal. I insert a knife from my silverware drawer (not a sharp food prep knife) under the largest overlap of the lid, using the flat side of the knife, until the flat knife blade rests between the lid and casserole dish and can be seen through the plastic lid. I tip the bowl a bit as I do so to help me see the knife slip in and since the lid is still tight, I've never spilled any of the contents. With the casserole dish now flat on the counter I twist the kinfe until it stands on edge. This twisting action gives me the leverage needed to pop off the lid easily. It ocassionally takes an extra try to get the knife inserted, but I've never failed to remove the lid!

I have owned and enjoyed Corelle dishes for many years. The concept of a lighter casserole dish is very appealing now that I have developed joint problems. I have owned 2 sizes of the Simply Lite casserole dishes for a couple of months. For cooking, the dishes perform to the high quality I expected from past experience with Corelle. However, the LIDs are a problem.
I found the plastic lids nearly impossible to apply and remove, and the struggle can splash cooking liquids, making a mess. The very rounded corners, also fail to give a spot to leverage a better grip for struggling with the lid. Ironically, the light weight works against me here. If there is a trick to this, please post it.
The glass lids fit nicely into the dish, in an upside down position for storage in the cabinet, but with the handle up, as you would use it in the 'fridge, the lid is not very secure. This is a problem for my visually-impaired family member, because if you bump it, the lid rattles around, and is difficult to pick up, especially with one hand.
Finally, the handles are too small to get a good grip--and I have small hands. Maybe it would be fine for a younger person without impairments, but my attraction to the product was because it was lightweight, and I was expecting that to solve a problem for us, but instead it has created additional ones. I really wanted to love this, but I am disappointed.
